The Archdiocese of Seattle has had a long commitment to the protection of children, youth and vulnerable adults. For more than 25 years, the Archdiocese has taken steps to assure the safety of those who serve in our parishes, schools, and agencies. The Archdiocese of Seattle deeply cherishes the bond of sacred trust between its members.

The Archdiocese of Seattle requires all new employees and volunteers working with children to take part in our Safe Environment Program in three ways.

They must do the following in VIRTUS, our online database focused on the prevention of abuse:

  • Successfully undergo a criminal background check every three years.
  • Complete the in-person Protecting God’s Children course (within the first three months volunteering)
  • Read and sign the Archdiocesan policies of conduct.

All current employees and volunteers will be notified by VIRTUS through email when it is time to renew their background check and/or take an online refresher course, which is now required every three years.

GETTING STARTED

You may complete these requirements by accessing the VIRTUS database. New employees and volunteers will need to create a VIRTUS profile under the “Registration” tab. You’ll want to select “Begin the Registration Process.” You will then have to select our organization (Seattle, WA – Archdiocese) from the drop-down list. For people new to the school and VIRTUS, you’ll then follow the prompts to register for classes in our area. For those completing renewals, you’ll look for the updates once you’ve logged in.
