About Mrs. Johnson:
Amy Johnson has always been drawn to sharing music with children. She began her working career as a piano teacher in Issaquah, Washington. Her next employment was working as a camp counselor at Camp River Ranch in Carnation, Washington, where she taught girls to sing and ride horses. She performed in many musical groups during high school and college, including band, orchestra, jazz band, brass quintets and woodwind quintets, even founding two such groups at the University of Washington.
After completing her degree at the University of Washington, Mrs. Johnson worked for over a decade as an electrical engineer in the electric utility industry. She stepped back from that work to offer more support to her own children and their Catholic school. She has been a volunteer musician for local parishes for nearly twenty years. She spent five years supporting the music program at Our Lady of Lourdes in Vancouver as an assistant band director and working as a substitute teacher.
Mrs. Johnson married the brightest man she met in college, Anders. Together they have two children. Charles is a sophomore at Seton Catholic, and Philip is an eighth grader at Our Lady of Lourdes. She serves as the scoutmaster for the female BSA Troop 5370.
Why did you choose St. Rose?
I was picking up my children from school when the principal asked if I would be willing to teach music at St. Rose. Kristin had asked the other principals of the Southern Deanery if they had any leads to fill the music teacher vacancy. I have always enjoyed working with children and sharing music in particular, so after reflection, I decided to apply at St. Rose. I have been so pleased with the welcoming atmosphere and can honestly say that I find great joy being a part of the St. Rose community.
