Curriculum 6th grade

Religion: Faith First is the title of the textbook. The lessons are built upon three foundations: the Word of God clearly expressed in Scripture and the Church’s Tradition, worship and prayer, and the call to service for the Kingdom of God. The students are required to journal their faith choice each week answering this question, How are you going to practice your faith in your family, school, or community?  Also, prayer is integrated daily along with attending mass weekly.

Science: Science Interactions contains three disciplines, life, earth, and physical science.

Throughout the year I will incorporate investigations or Foss kits from the Science Educational District in Vancouver. The Foss kits are very organized into hands on activities. Most of the science is done in a laboratory setting and students learn how to write up a lab using the scientific method with teacher direction. The first trimester concentrates on food and nutrition and third trimester studies levers and pulleys. Students will be participating in a school science fair.

History: History of Our World, The Early Ages is the title of the textbook. The curriculum focus is geography, history, and cultures of the world, from the beginnings of history to our world today. The students will be learning how to comprehend informational texts by using different reading and note taking strategies. They will be writing in various forms, for example expository or persuasive writing. Also, they will be constructing projects that represent different cultures from history, which would cover ancient knowledge, art and drama, traditions, and customs. For example, a student might work in clay to build a small scaled pyramid.

Grades are gathered from participation, cooperative group performance, quizzes, journals/notebooks and standardized tests.
