Sixth Grade Science: Science Interactions is a general science textbook used in this class. The students are using the scientific method throughout the year. They are responsible for completing several lab experiments. They have completed a unit on landforms while using the FOSS kit They are beginning a unit on nutrition which will involve four investigations from the nutrition kit. After being introduced to classification and the taxonomy of organisms they will do a research paper and power point presentation on a northwestern mammals. Seventh Science: Life Science is the text. In this course students have explored cells and cell processes. They further investigate the five kingdoms and organisms within each. The students have just completed a study of DNA, heredity, and evolution. They are learning about the history of the classification of organisms and will review and add to their knowledge of taxonomy. They will study and examine organisms from each of the five kingdoms. They will also do an in-depth research of a Northwestern bird. This will be followed with a power point presentation to the class. Eighth Science : The eighth grade began the year with a FOSS kit on planetary science. They learned about our solar system, the Earth and its moon, meteors and asteroids and the effect of their impact on both Earth and moon. Earth Science is the text through which students have learned about elements and the atoms that compose them. They completed a study of minerals and using a power point presented the outcome of their research. They are presently studying erosional agents that bring about changes in the Earth’s surface. Next will be the study of earthquakes, volcanoes and plate tectonics. |
