FIRST GRADE CURRICULUM
“Trophies” curriculum includes five basal readers. I work individually with each
student in the reading book that is appropriate for them. There is also a language arts,
phonics and spelling piece to this program that correlates with the vocabulary in the
reading books. Look for a spelling word list each Monday which students should
study for a test at the end of the week.
D’Nealian Handwriting Prepares students to learn cursive handwriting.
Math The Harcourt Math curriculum includes number sense, addition, subtraction,
graphing, measurement, place value, money, time, fractions, algebra, geometry
and numbers to 100.
Social Studies The Houghton Mifflin series includes a different unit every month on the
topics of our neighbors and our world.We also work in a map reading workbook.
Religion Students explore how our families work together at home, in school
and in our church.
Second Step Violence prevention program
Art A variety of ways to express creativity are explored.
Science Three main units are studied:Air and Weather, New Plants and Liquids
and Solids.A Harcourt curriculum is used as a supplement.
Spanish A video curriculum begins in January that teaches
basic words and vocabulary.
